How to Find a Cannabis Store Nearby in the GTA
To find a cannabis store nearby in the GTA, search Google Maps for "cannabis stores near me" or check the AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario) authorized retailer list. Only stores licensed by the AGCO are legal to sell cannabis in Ontario, and the legal purchase age is 19+. Ashario Cannabis appears in Google Maps results across North York, Aurora, Thornton, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Newmarket, and Barrie corridors.
Here are the fastest ways to confirm you've found a legitimate, closest cannabis store:
- AGCO licence check: Every legal dispensary displays an AGCO Retail Operator Licence and Retail Store Authorization. If a store doesn't show one, it's not legal.
- Google Maps "Open Now" filter: Combine this with "cannabis store" to surface only currently open shops.
- Store websites: Legitimate retailers like Ashario list real addresses, phone numbers, and hours. Visit our Ashario Cannabis homepage to start.
Most GTA residents are within a 15-minute drive of a legal dispensary, but the closest cannabis store depends on which subregion you're in. The next sections break that down.

What Makes a Cannabis Shop Near Me Worth Visiting
Not every cannabis store nearby is created equal. The closest dispensary by distance isn't always the best fit: selection, staff knowledge, and operating hours matter. Ashario Cannabis is open 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM daily, which is one of the longest retail windows in Ontario, allowing morning commuters and late-night shoppers equal access. Learn more about Ashario Cannabis and our retail philosophy.
When evaluating a cannabis shop near me, our budtenders recommend checking these five factors:
- Product breadth: Look for stores carrying flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, concentrates, beverages, topicals, and accessories from multiple Licensed Producers.
- Staff training: Knowledgeable budtenders should explain terpene profiles, THC/CBD percentages, and cultivar genetics without medical claims.
- Hours of operation: Early-open and late-close stores accommodate shift workers and commuters.
- Online ordering and pickup: Reserve products online at Ashario's product collections and pick them up in-store.
- Location accessibility: Free parking, transit access, and highway proximity all matter for a regular pickup spot.
Legal Dispensary GTA: What Ontario's Cannabis Act Requires
A legal dispensary in the GTA must hold both a Retail Operator Licence and a Retail Store Authorization issued by the AGCO under Ontario's Cannabis Licence Act, 2018. Cannabis can only be legally sold to customers 19 years of age or older, and every transaction requires valid government-issued photo ID. Illegal cannabis stores, sometimes called "grey market" shops, do not test products through Health Canada's regulated supply chain and pose contamination risks.
Key Ontario cannabis regulations every shopper should know in 2026:
- Legal age: 19+ across Ontario, verified at the door.
- Possession limit: 30 grams of dried cannabis (or equivalent) in public per adult.
- Edibles cap: 10 mg THC per package for legal edibles | covered in depth on the Ashario blog.
- No consumption on premises: Ontario law prohibits sampling or consuming cannabis inside a retail store.
Ashario Cannabis operates fully within these regulations across all 4 locations. To verify or ask any compliance question, visit our contact page.

This system reduces wait times during peak hours (typically 4 PM to 8 PM weekdays and Saturday afternoons), and ensures the exact cultivar you want is held aside.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find the closest cannabis store to my address?
Search "cannabis store nearby" or "cannabis stores near me" in Google Maps, then cross-reference results against the AGCO authorized retailer list to confirm the store is legal. Ashario Cannabis has 4 GTA locations covering North York (Finch & Dufferin and Centerpoint Mall), Aurora, and Thornton. Each location's address, phone number, and hours are listed on our store locations page for quick navigation.
What are the hours of cannabis stores in the GTA?
Ontario allows legal cannabis retail between 9:00 AM and 11:00 PM, and most GTA dispensaries operate within those hours. Ashario Cannabis opens earlier than most, 7:00 AM daily at all 4 locations: under our extended-hours retail authorization. We close at 11:00 PM, 7 days a week, including holidays. Early morning customers tend to be commuters and shift workers picking up before work.
Is it legal to buy cannabis in person at a dispensary in Ontario?
Yes. As of 2026, recreational cannabis is fully legal in Ontario for adults 19 and older through licensed retailers authorized by the AGCO. You must show valid government-issued photo ID at the door of every legal dispensary. Online orders from licensed retailers are also legal, but possession outside the home is capped at 30 grams of dried cannabis (or its equivalent in other formats) per adult.
What's the difference between a legal dispensary and a grey-market store?
A legal dispensary holds an AGCO Retail Operator Licence and Retail Store Authorization, and verifies customer age at the door. Grey-market or illegal stores do none of these things: products are not Health Canada-tested, packaging is not regulated, and customer safety is not guaranteed. All 4 Ashario Cannabis locations are fully AGCO-licensed.
Can I order cannabis online and pick it up the same day?
Yes. Same-day pickup is available at all 4 Ashario Cannabis locations across the GTA. Browse the product collections, choose your preferred store at checkout, and you'll receive a confirmation typically within 30 to 60 minutes. Bring 19+ photo ID and pay at the store. This is the fastest way to secure limited drops and high-demand cultivars.
