Dual Chamber Vape Not Hitting? Fix It Fast

If your dual chamber vape isn't hitting, the most common cause is a clogged mouthpiece or a cold oil channel that hasn't warmed up yet. A single dual chamber pen, like the Sev7n, holds two separate oil wells with one draw path, so a blockage in either side can choke airflow. The BoxHot Glow is a single-chamber disposable with a different draw. Each needs a slightly different fix.
We sell both formats across our four Ontario stores, and weak-hit questions are easily the most common vape troubleshooting problem our budtenders field in person. This guide walks through setup, the first puff, and the exact steps to recover a pen that feels dead. For more reading on getting the most out of disposables, our blog archive covers vape basics in depth.
What is a dual chamber vape and how does it work?
A dual chamber vape holds two separate oil reservoirs inside one device, often two different strains or two cannabinoid blends, sharing a single battery and airway. You draw from one chamber at a time by rotating a selector or switching a dial, depending on the model. The Sev7n Dual Chamber is this style.
Because the two wells share a draw path, airflow behaves differently than a standard single-cartridge pen. If the selector sits between positions, you can get a weak or hollow pull from both sides. Setting it firmly to one chamber usually restores a full draw. The BoxHot Glow, by comparison, is a single-well disposable: one oil supply, one coil, one straightforward draw, which we covered in our earlier Glow Stick walkthrough.
Both run on a draw-activated or button heating system. Neither contains anything you refill. Potency varies by product and lot, so always verify THC and CBD figures on the in-store label or the COA rather than guessing from the box.
How to use a dual chamber vape: first puff setup
To use a dual chamber vape, charge it fully, select your chamber, prime the oil with two short gentle draws, then take a slow steady pull of 2 to 3 seconds. The oil needs a moment to warm before vapour builds, so your very first puff is often the weakest. That's normal.
Step-by-step for the Sev7n Dual Chamber
- Charge it. A fresh device may ship with a partial charge. Top it up until the indicator shows full before your first session.
- Pick a chamber. Rotate or switch the selector fully to one side. Don't leave it halfway. A partial setting splits airflow and causes the classic weak hit.
- Prime the coil. Take two short, soft puffs without inhaling deeply. This pulls oil toward the heating element.
- First real draw. Inhale slowly for 2 to 3 seconds. Draw too hard and you'll flood the coil; too soft and it won't heat.
- Wait between puffs. Give the coil 15 to 20 seconds to reset. Rapid back-to-back draws cool the element and thin the vapour.
First puff setup for the BoxHot Glow
The Glow is simpler: no chamber to select. Charge it, take two priming puffs, then draw slowly. Because it's a single well, a weak first hit almost always means the oil is cold or the draw is too gentle. Warm it in your hand for a minute in winter and the viscosity improves noticeably.
Why is my dual chamber vape not hitting?
A dual chamber vape that won't hit is usually suffering from one of four issues: a clogged airway, a cold or thick oil channel, a selector stuck between chambers, or a dead battery. Roughly four out of five weak-hit complaints our team sees in store trace back to clogging or a half-set selector, both fixable in under a minute.
Fixing weak airflow and clogs
- Clear the mouthpiece. Oil migrates up and hardens near the tip. Take a thin pin or an unfolded paperclip and gently clear the opening. Wipe with a dry cloth, never water on the electronics.
- Blow back gently. A soft reverse puff into the mouthpiece can push a clog back down toward the well. Do this over a tissue.
- Warm the device. Cold oil is thick oil. In Ontario winters, a pen left in a car overnight will barely draw. Hold it in your palm or a warm pocket for a few minutes.
- Seat the selector. On the Sev7n, confirm the chamber switch is fully clicked to one side. A between-position setting is the single most overlooked cause of weak airflow.
- Check the charge. A low battery produces thin, cool vapour before it dies completely. Charge and retest.
When airflow is too tight or too loose
Some draws feel restricted because the oil has partially sealed the airway. A gentle warming and a soft back-puff usually reopen it. If a draw feels wide open with almost no vapour, the coil may not be heating, which points to battery or connection trouble rather than a clog. If neither warming nor clearing helps and the device is new, bring it in with your receipt and we'll help diagnose it at the counter.
Sev7n Dual Chamber vs BoxHot Glow: which is easier to troubleshoot?
The BoxHot Glow is easier to troubleshoot because it has one chamber, one coil, and one draw path, so there's less to go wrong. The Sev7n Dual Chamber offers two strains in one device, which is its appeal, but the shared airway and selector add two extra failure points: a half-set switch and cross-chamber clogging.
Here's how the two compare on the practical points customers ask us about most:
- Setup complexity: Glow is grab-and-go. Sev7n requires picking a chamber first.
- Weak-hit causes: Glow, almost always cold oil or soft draw. Sev7n, add selector position and cross-channel clog.
- Variety: Sev7n lets you switch between two oils in one pocket device. Glow is one oil per unit.
- Cold-weather behaviour: Both thicken in the cold, but the Sev7n's longer airway can clog faster once oil stiffens.
Neither is better in a blanket sense. If you want simplicity, the Glow is forgiving. If you want two options on hand, the Sev7n's trade-off is a little more upkeep. Potency and flavour depend on the specific strain and lot loaded, so check the current label. You can see what's stocked at your nearest shop on our live store menu.
Cannabis disposable troubleshooting in Ontario: the basics
In Ontario, cannabis vapes are sold only through licensed retailers to adults 19 and over, and every device must carry the excise stamp and standardized cannabis symbol. All vapes are governed under the federal Cannabis Act and overseen provincially by the AGCO. Product and packaging safety standards fall under Health Canada.
A few Ontario-specific troubleshooting notes as of 2026:
- Keep the stamped packaging. If a device is defective, retailers need the original box and your receipt to process a return or escalate to the producer.
- Cold matters here. Our winters genuinely affect oil viscosity. A pen that "stopped working" outdoors often works fine once warmed indoors.
- Store upright. Laid flat for long stretches, oil can pool away from the coil and cause a weak first draw.
- Never force a charge. Use the correct cable. Overheating a disposable can damage the coil permanently.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my dual chamber vape hit hard on one side but not the other?
This usually means one chamber's coil is clogged or that well is running low while the other is full. On the Sev7n, confirm the selector is fully seated on the weak side, then take two priming puffs to draw oil toward that coil. If one chamber is nearly empty, the remaining oil struggles to reach the element and vapour thins out. A gentle warming of the device can also help the thicker, less-used side flow again.
Can I fix a clogged vape without any tools?
Often, yes. Start by warming the device in your hand for a few minutes to soften the oil, then take a slow draw to try to clear the path. A gentle reverse puff into the mouthpiece, done over a tissue, can push a soft clog back down. If a hardened plug remains, a thin pin or unfolded paperclip clears the mouthpiece opening safely. Never use water near the battery or coil.
How long should a cannabis disposable last before it stops hitting?
It depends on the oil volume in the device and how long your draws are, so there's no fixed number of puffs. A disposable that suddenly stops well before you'd expect is more likely clogged, cold, or low on battery than empty. Hold it up to light if the housing is clear to check remaining oil. If there's visible oil but no vapour, troubleshoot the coil and battery before assuming it's finished.
Does cold weather really stop an Ontario vape from working?
Yes, this is one of the most common winter complaints we hear in store. Cannabis oil thickens as it cools, so a pen left in a cold car or carried outdoors in an Ontario winter can draw weakly or not at all. The fix is simple: bring it inside, hold it in a warm pocket or your palm for several minutes, then retest. Once the oil returns to room temperature, airflow and vapour usually normalize.
What should I do if my brand-new vape won't hit at all?
First confirm it's charged, since some devices ship partly charged. Then check the selector position if it's a dual chamber, warm the oil, and take two gentle priming puffs. If it still produces no vapour after all of that, it may be defective. Keep the original stamped packaging and your receipt and bring it to the store where you bought it. Our staff can assess it and, where applicable, help process a return or producer claim.
Is it safe to recharge a disposable vape?
Many modern disposables are designed to be recharged to use up all the oil, and doing so with the correct cable is fine. Avoid cheap or mismatched chargers, don't leave it charging unattended, and stop if the device gets unusually hot. Overheating can permanently damage the coil. If a device isn't designed to recharge, forcing it can be hazardous, so check the packaging or ask our team if you're unsure.
