How Cannabis Delivery Works in Ontario

Note: Cannabis is for adults 19+ in Ontario. This content is for informational purposes only and is not medical advice. Consult a healthcare professional for cannabis-related health questions.

Same-day cannabis delivery in Ontario works like this: you order online from a licensed retailer, a driver brings it to your door within 1 to 2 hours, checks your government photo ID at the door, and hands it to you in person. Ashario Cannabis charges a flat $9.77 delivery fee with no minimum order, delivers from 10 AM to 10 PM seven days a week, and the order cutoff for same-day is 8 PM. You must be 19+, and the driver cannot leave your order unattended.

That's the short version. Below we break down every step of how it actually plays out at the door: the ID check, what payment looks like, and exactly which product categories you can and can't get delivered. If you've only ever ordered by mail before, this is the part that surprises people most. For a full list of neighbourhoods we reach, see our same-day cannabis delivery hub.

How does same-day weed delivery in Ontario actually work?

Same-day weed delivery in Ontario is a local courier service run by a licensed retailer. You browse a store's live menu, place an order online, pay, and a driver from that specific store delivers to your address the same day, usually within 1 to 2 hours. It's not a mail service; it's a local dispatch model tied to individual store locations.

Here's the sequence when you order from Ashario:

  1. You browse the live menu for the store that serves your area.
  2. You place your order online before the 8 PM same-day cutoff.
  3. The store confirms your order and hands it to a driver.
  4. The driver texts or calls with an ETA, then arrives at your door.
  5. They verify your ID, complete payment, and hand the package directly to you.

Three of our four stores fulfill delivery. Which one handles your order depends entirely on your postal code. Our Centerpoint Mall location at 6464 Yonge St covers North York, Thornhill, Richmond Hill, and west Markham. Our Finch & Dufferin store at 1111A Finch Ave W covers Downsview, west North York, and north Scarborough. Our Aurora store at 15114 Yonge St covers Aurora, Newmarket, and northern York Region. If you live outside those zones, say Mississauga or Barrie, same-day delivery isn't available, but in-store pickup is at any of our four shops.

What happens with the cannabis delivery ID check at the door?

Every cannabis delivery in Ontario legally requires an ID check on arrival. The driver verifies you're 19 or older using a valid government-issued photo ID: a driver's licence, passport, or provincial photo card. No ID, no handoff. The order cannot be left at the door, dropped in a mailbox, or given to anyone who appears intoxicated or under 19.

This is a hard rule from the Cannabis Act, not a company preference. A few things our drivers are trained to do that catch people off guard:

  • The ID must match the person receiving. You can't send a roommate down with your ID.
  • Expired ID doesn't count. Make sure your licence or card is current.
  • Signs of intoxication mean a refused delivery. Drivers can decline a handoff and the order returns to the store.
  • The handoff is in person. The driver won't leave it on the porch, even if you ask.

Have your ID ready when you see the driver's ETA text. It speeds things up, especially during our busy evening window before the 8 PM cutoff. For more on why these rules exist, Drug Free Kids Canada and Health Canada both publish plain-language guidance on keeping cannabis away from minors.

What can you order for cannabis delivery?

You can order any legal recreational cannabis category that's in stock at your fulfilling store: dried flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, beverages, concentrates (shatter, resin, rosin, hash), oils and capsules, topicals, seeds, and accessories. Everything sold through a licensed Ontario retailer is fair game for delivery. What you can't order is anything not carried by a legal retailer: no unregulated or high-dose products beyond legal limits.

Because same-day delivery pulls from one store's live inventory, the selection reflects what's physically on the shelf right now. A few practical notes from our floor:

  • Flower and pre-rolls are our most-delivered category: customers who know their preferred cultivar tend to reorder by name.
  • Edibles are capped at 10 mg THC per package under federal rules, so multi-serving orders are common. Health Canada guidance for new consumers is to start with 2.5 mg or less and wait before taking more.
  • Vapes and concentrates move fast, so if you want a specific cartridge or a particular shatter, checking the live menu before ordering avoids swaps.
  • Accessories: grinders, papers, rolling trays, storage, can ride along with a cannabis order.

Potency isn't fixed. THC and CBD percentages vary by product and lot, so verify the exact number on the in-store label or COA rather than assuming a strain hits the same every batch. Our budtenders can walk you through what's freshest before you commit, just contact the fulfilling store.

How much does delivery cost and how long does it take?

Ashario charges a flat $9.77 delivery fee with no minimum order, and most same-day orders arrive within 1 to 2 hours. Delivery runs from 10 AM to 10 PM, seven days a week, and the same-day order cutoff is 8 PM. Order after 8 PM and it rolls to the next delivery day. Product prices vary and change often, so we don't quote them here. Check the live menu.

Timing depends on how far you are from the fulfilling store and how busy the queue is. Weekend evenings and the stretch right before the 8 PM cutoff are our peak windows, so if you want a guaranteed same-day drop, ordering earlier in the afternoon is the safe play. Our stores are open 7 AM to 11 PM daily if you'd rather grab it in person and skip the wait entirely.

Frequently asked questions about cannabis delivery in Ontario

Do I have to tip the cannabis delivery driver?

Tipping isn't required and it's never built into the flat $9.77 delivery fee. Whether you tip is entirely up to you, the same as with any courier or food delivery. Our drivers do the ID verification, handle the in-person handoff, and often bring your order across two neighbourhoods within an hour or two. If you'd like to add a tip you're welcome to, but there's no expectation and no penalty for skipping it.

Can someone else accept my cannabis delivery for me?

No. The person receiving the delivery must show their own valid government photo ID proving they're 19 or older, and it has to match the recipient. A roommate, partner, or friend can't accept the order on your behalf using a different name. This is a Cannabis Act requirement, not a store rule. If nobody eligible is home to receive it in person, the driver returns the order to the store rather than leaving it unattended.

What if I'm not home when the driver arrives?

The driver will try to reach you by the phone number on the order once they arrive. Because cannabis can't be left unattended or dropped in a mailbox, if you're unreachable or can't come to the door, the order goes back to the fulfilling store. To avoid that, watch for the ETA text, keep your phone handy, and have your ID out. If your plans change, call the store as early as you can so we can adjust before the driver is dispatched.

Is same-day cannabis delivery available everywhere in Ontario?

No. Same-day delivery only covers defined local zones around each fulfilling store. Ashario delivers to North York, Thornhill, Richmond Hill, west Markham, Downsview, north Scarborough, Aurora, Newmarket, and parts of northern York Region. Areas like Mississauga, Brampton, and Barrie fall outside our same-day zones, though you can still order for in-store pickup at any of our four locations. If you're unsure whether your address qualifies, check the specific delivery zone pages before ordering.

Can I order cannabis delivery if I don't have a driver's licence?

Yes, as long as you have another valid government-issued photo ID. A Canadian or foreign passport, an Ontario Photo Card, or another provincial or federal photo ID all work for the door check. The requirement is simply that the ID is government-issued, current (not expired), includes your photo, and shows you're 19 or older. A student card or health card without a birth date and photo won't satisfy the check.
